Harold and Donna Schellenberg Fund
Harold & Donna Schellenberg have been passionate supporters of the Okanagan Symphony in Penticton for more than 4o years. They have made lasting contributions to the Symphony through their volunteerism and activism in the community. Their commitment to the Symphony comes from a genuine love of music, of live performance, and of cultural vitality and diversity in our community. Inspired by the philanthropic example set by friends like Harold & Flo Hoey and Hugh & Eva Cleland, Harold & Donna made contributions to the Okanagan Symphony Society-Penticton Branch Fund in an effort to help provide a lasting source of income for the Society.
However, in 2008, the Schellenbergs were informed of the option to create a “named designated fund” which would continue to provide the same support to the Symphony. Setting up the Harold & Donna Schellenberg Fund, designated to the Okanagan Symphony – Penticton Branch, was easy to do and provided a few key advantages for the Schellenbergs:
- The Named Fund encourages their adult children to become involved in philanthropy, with both sons having made contributions to the Fund in lieu of Christmas presents last year (although Donna considers it the best present of all).
- Having the fund in their name encourages their friends and fellow Symphony supporters to consider doing the same, thereby promoting the health and longevity of the organization they all care about.
- The Schellenbergs were able to take advantage of a Canadian Heritage matching donation program which effectively doubled their contribution to the Fund, in favour of the Symphony.
- The status of the Fund as “designated” ensures that the stated beneficiary (the Okanagan Symphony-Penticton Branch) can never be changed.
